A Little About Jane

Frank Fitzpatrick my granddad was the proud owner of Fitzpatrick’s greengrocer, fruiterer and wholefood store on Camden Street which sold everything from potatoes and turnips to peppers, shallots, quinoa, couscous, olives, chickpeas and more. Due to the vast selection of exotic ingredients sold in the shop, Fitzpatricks became a destination for the foreign students working in the royal college of surgeons hungry for a taste of home. Frank worked hand in hand with Irish farmers supplying fresh seasonal produce to all his customers.

Frank died in his beloved shop on a busy Saturday in 1975 leaving behind Carmie (my granny) and her nine kids. After this the shop grew and took over the drapery next door which became a cafe/ deli during the day serving sandwiches, baps, lasagnes and tagines, to an authentic Spanish restaurant in the evening with both chefs and waiters coming from Spain and South America. This was the first tapas restaurant in Dublin. That initial collaborative venture between siblings Padraig, Frank and Geraldine Fitzpatrick (my mom) and Desmond Barker (my dad) established the first Fitzers Eatery. The Partnership between the Fitzpatrick’s and Barkers continues today. During the years they had restaurants and cafes across Dublin in the national gallery, RDS, temple bar, Baggot Street and Dawson Street and outside catering at the point depot. Fitzers in Dawson Street since 2009 since is home to their first collaborative venture with Marco Pierre white. (Where I’m working to date)

I have always been totally obsessed with food and everything about it, When I was younger I spent all my summers working in the Kitchens of my family restaurants shadowing the chefs and then recreating their recipes at home

After completing a 4 year degree in Business & Spanish I realized I wasn’t interested in pursuing a career in anything to do with business directly.

I decided to enrol in the three month intensive course at Ballymaloe cookery school. This is when my true passion for food began to flourish. Ballymaloe is where I decided I would like to work with food and I have not looked back since.

Now I divide my time between working in the family business and running my own small catering company where I do anything from communions, house parties to cooking demos and supper clubs  which I absolutely love doing.

My love for all things food and nature has led to myself and my boyfriend Eoin keeping a growing apiary of bees producing the most delicious honey and helping to pollinate all the plants / veg in my garden.

With cooking I always like to keep it simple, using ingredients that are in season & local where possible.

The recipes here are a mixture of everything from family favourites to popular dishes for entertaining
